Tuesday, July 15, 2014 Weekend Summary

Last weekend, boyfriend and I decided to head down to Johor Bahru for a mini food adventure! As you may or may not know, I love to research, basically anything that I'm interested in. So it's a no brainer that I was left in charge of finding interesting cafes while wx take charge of transportation and directions etc... This is why I love traveling with him!

Striped Top - H&M, Shorts - Infinite Pixie, Tote Bag - Infinite Pixie, Sandals - Forever 21

First thing we did was to fill up our hungry tummies at IT Roo Cafe located at Jalan Dhoby which is about ten minutes walk from City Square. If you are not familiar with the area, it's best to take a cab which is inexpensive.

Ice Lemon Tea + Iced Barley!

Peanuts was served while waiting for our food...

Ordered their signature dish - Chicken Chop (Black Pepper)

Wx also ordered their signature chicken chop (Fried crispy)

Tried both so that we can decide which taste better and the fried crispy version was such a letdown. The black pepper version definitely taste better but not worth going back again for it. I'm sorry but I do still think that the western food served at E.S Western Food in Singapore taste so much better, which I blogged about it here.

 IT Roo Cafe
17 Jalan Dhoby, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia
Opening Hours: 10am to 9:30pm

There's a lot of interesting cafes, coffee shops, art gallery and independent boutique shops found in Jalan Dhoby which is a little similar to our Haji Lane in Singapore.

Chaiwalla & Co. - Need to try their tea next time!

Wandered around and boyfriend came across this little cafe. Out of curiosity, we decided to give it a go.

Wx wanted Butterscotch flavoured ice cream so bad because it's not commonly found in Singapore and let me tell you, this is the bomb. You HAVE to try this when you're there! We both love this so much and I am recommending this little gem to everyone. Good things have to be shared, right? :)

It started raining so we chilled for a little longer and look what the boss came to our table with.... complimentary cookies which taste so good!

Will we be back for their ice cream? Hell yes, without a doubt.

First of all, the boss of The Ice Cream Project is extremely down to earth and friendly to all customers. It's the little things that the boss does that won our heart over. Secondly, there's wifi in the cafe which is good for those who cannot be disconnected with the internet. I highly recommend you to give The Ice Cream Project a go. You will not be disappointed :)

 The Ice Cream Project
  • 31 Jalan Dhoby, 80000 Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia

  • Operating Hours:
  • Tuesday - Thursday: 3pm to 10pm
  • Friday - Saturday: 3pm to 12am
  • Sunday: 3pm to 1pm

Decided to head back to City Square and we walked back instead of taking cab thanks to the boyfriend who has great navigation skills. Oh, and not forgetting a good memory. See what I mean when I say he's my favourite traveling companion? Hehe.

We wanted to have Nandos for dinner but nobody served us!? Not sure if we should walk in just like that or wait to be seated. Even so, somebody should have attended us but nope. Apparently, the staffs there were so oblivious to their surrounding so we left and waiting for 5 minutes.

Everywhere was so crowded except for this Hong Kong Restaurant so we dined there, without much expectations.

XO Chee Cheong Fun

Surprisingly, it tasted not too bad! Pretty decent, I shall say.

Wx ordered their Cheese Baked Rice which we didn't liked it, at all. The rice texture is rough, the cheese isn't cheesy enough and we waited for half an hour for this not-so-good dish.

I'm sorry but I can't remember what's the name of this restaurant :(

After dinner, we came across Hui Lau Shan and boyfriend wanted to eat this mango dessert so badly and I've not tried before so why not right? Apparently, it's very popular in Hong Kong too.

Mango feast! It comes in a set which is good as you can try a bit of everything.

 Hui Lau Shan
City Square, 106-108, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, 80000, Johor Bahru

The amazing thing for this trip was we both spent less than SGD$50 for everything!

How is that even possible? In Singapore, dining in restaurant would easily cost you at least SGD$50 for two pax already. Can't wait to go back since it's only 15 minutes away from my place which is even faster than traveling all the way down to town. Heh!
